Digital Information Sources are becoming more and more popular since they provide multimedia information, full-text search, reference link and easy in accessing and utilizing them. In Eritrea, particularly in Asmara city, significant investments have been made by the government of Eritrea in digital resources and accompanying computer-based technology to ensure access to those digital resources. However, the resources appeared to be underutilized by most of the people. The major purpose of this study is to find out the public awareness on digital medium of information, to determine how people in Asmara (Eritrea) use the digital information sources, the purpose of using digital information sources, the availability of digital information in Asmara, the difficulties in accessing information from digital information sources and finding ways and means to improve the accessibility and utilization of digital information sources. The study also seeks the people's opinion about the role of public libraries in providing digital information services. Eritrean Telecommunication Services Corporation (Eritel) is one of several internet service providers in the country. EriTel was among the first organization to get a license to establish internet cafes, and the net services through leased lines and dial-up connections. However, connections are typically overcrowded and congestion is an acknowledged problem. EriTel controls the national gateway, which it created in partnership with US Agency for International Development (USAID). The Asmara Public Library (APL) established in 1958 is one of the major information service centre aims to enhance the reading culture in the country by providing useful books to the users or customers of the library. It also strives to provide up to date information about what is going on inside our globe to the community. The APL has physical library, children's library, Open Space Reading Facility, Seminars, Lectures and Group Discussion Facility, Net cafe and Digital Library. Mining and blending operations in the high grade iron ore deposit under study are performed to optimize recovery with minimal alumina content while maintaining required levels of other chemical component and a proper mix of ore types. In the present work the regionalisation of alumina in the ores has been studied independently and its effects on global and local recoverable tonnage as well as on alternatives of mining operations have been evaluated.
The global tonnage recovery curves for blocks (20m x 20m x 12m) obtained by simulation closely approximated the curves obtained theoretically using a change of support under the discretised gaussian model. Variations in block size up to 80m x 20m x 12m did not affect the recovery as the horizontal dimensions of the blocks are small in relation to the range of the variogram. A comparison of the local tonnage recovery curves obtained through multiple conditional simulations made with that obtained by the method of unifonn conditioning of block grades on an estimate of panel 100m x 100m x 12m panel grade reveals comparable results only in panels which have been well conditioned and possesing an ensemble simulation mean close to the ordinary kriged value for the panel. Study of simple alternative sequence of mining on the conditionally simulated deposit shows that concentration of mining operations simultaneously on a single bench enhances the fluctuation in alumina values of ore mined.

The life table and intrinsic rate of increase of Acanthaspis pedestris Stal (Heteroptera: Reduviidae) a predator of lepidopteran insect pests viz., Spodoptera litura (Fabricius), Earias vittella (Fabricius) and Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) are discussed. The intrinsic rates of increase were 0.039, 0.032 and 0.028 per female per day on S. litura, E. vittella and C. cephalonica, respectively. The population multiplied 44.44, 24.79 and 19.36 times in the cohort generation time of 115.19,121.82 and 133.19 days on S. litura, E. vittella and C. cephalonica, respectively.Keywords

The study presents fine resolution multisite daily precipitation projection for the Tapi basin using the kernel-regression (KR) based statistical downscaling methodology developed by Kannan and Ghosh with and without conditioned on the estimated rainfall state. The models are applied in downscaling of daily monsoon precipitation at a fine resolution of 0.25 comprising 351 grid points in and around the basin. The air temperature, specific humidity, zonal and meridional wind (at surface, 250, 500 and 850 hPa); mean sea level pressure and geopotential height at surface are utilized as predictors from five GCMs under CMIP-5 for two future scenarios, viz. RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. The performance of the downscaling model examined with respect to reproduction of various statistics for training period and indicated the better performance of KR model conditioned on the rainfall state than KR model without conditioned on the rainfall state of the basin. The KR model conditioned on the rainfall state is employed for future projections from GCMs outputs. The statistically downscaled daily precipitation from GCM (MPI-M) and CORDEX (COSMO-CLM) data is compared to quantify uncertainty. The statistically downscaled daily precipitation performs better than corresponding CORDEX data for the present study area. The study also revealed a possibility of decrease in the occurrences of extreme events with an increase in the medium rainfall events in the basin for future.Keywords

Background/Objectives: Association rules are generated from frequent item set by Association mining. The generation of frequent item set makes a great impact on decision making. The objective of the work is to introduce a new measure called SUF (Skill Utility Factor) to extract meaningful hidden item set and develop a hybrid algorithm FPWUM (Fuzzy Partial Weighted Utility Mining) for decision making. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The traditional measures support and confidence is augmented with SUF which can be useful for Human resource personnel to easily predict the work-force calibre in an organization. Using different methods like association rule mining, fuzzy logic and weighted utility mining has improved the prediction of attributes relations efficient and faster. Findings: The FPWUM extracts more efficient hidden frequent item sets through which many new and interesting rules are generated. Since the application of attribute’s weight are handled wisely and improvising factor is used only for hidden item set the model process time is reduced fairly. The idea of integrating the conventional measures and the SUF is a unique technique. The approach works well on real time dataset compared to the conventional models. The comparative result shows the algorithm’s ability. Improvements/ Applications: The algorithm uses predefined weighting scheme. It can be enhanced by using dynamic intelligent weighting factor.Keywords

In Ensemble classifiers, the Combination of multiple prediction models of classifiers is important for making progress in a variety of difficult prediction problems. Ensemble of classifiers proved potential in getting higher accuracy compared to single classifier. Even though by the usage ensemble classifiers, still there is in-need to improve its performance. There are many possible ways available to increase the performance of ensemble classifiers. One of the ways is sampling, which plays a major role for improving the quality of ensemble classifier. Since, it helps in reducing the bias in input data set of ensemble. Sampling is the process of extracting the subset of samples from the original data set. In this research work, analysis is done on sampling techniques for ensemble classifiers. In ensemble classifier, specifically one of the probability based sampling techniques is being always used. Samples are gathered in a process which gives all the individuals in the population of equal chances, such that, sampling bias is removed. In this paper, analyse the performance of ensemble classifiers by using various sampling techniques and list out their drawbacks.Keywords

This study aims to provide an accurate and realistic prediction model for electricity demand using population, imports, exports, per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and per capita Gross National Income (GNI) data for India. Four different models were used for different combinations of the above five input variables and the effect of input variables on the estimation of electricity demand has been demonstrated. In order to train the network 29 years data and to test the network 9 years data have been used. The future electricity demand for a period of 8 years from 2013 to 2020 has been predicted. The performance of the ANFIS technique is proved to be better than Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN).Keywords

In general, the identification and verification are done by passwords, pin number, etc., which is easily cracked by others. In order to overcome this issue biometrics is a unique tool for authenticate an individual person. Nevertheless, unimodal biometric is suffered due to noise, intra class variations, spoof attacks, non-universality and some other attacks. In order to avoid these attacks, the multimodal biometrics i.e. combining of more modalities is adapted. In a biometric authentication system, the acceptance or rejection of an entity is dependent on the similarity score falling above or below the threshold. Hence this paper has focused on the security of the biometric system, because compromised biometric templates cannot be revoked or reissued and also this paper has proposed a multimodal system based on an evolutionary algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization that adapts for varying security environments. With these two concerns, this paper had developed a design incorporating adaptability, authenticity and security.Keywords

Biometrics is a powerful and unique tool based on the anatomical and behavioral characteristics of the human beings in order to prove their authentication. This paper proposes a novel recognition methodology of biometrics named as Finger Knuckle print (FKP). Hence this paper has focused on the extraction of features of Finger knuckle print using Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), and the key points are derived from FKP are clustered using K-Means Algorithm. The centroid of K-Means is stored in the database which is compared with the query FKP K-Means centroid value to prove the recognition and authentication. The comparison is based on the XOR operation. Hence this paper provides a novel recognition method to provide authentication. Results are performed on the PolyU FKP database to check the proposed FKP recognition method.Keywords

This paper describes the application of an evolutionary algorithm, Restart Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (RCMAES) to the Generation Expansion Planning (GEP) problem. RCMAES is a class of continuous Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) derived from the concept of self-adaptation in evolution strategies, which adapts the covariance matrix of a multivariate normal search distribution. The original GEP problem is modified by incorporating Virtual Mapping Procedure (VMP). The GEP problem of a synthetic test systems for 6- year, 14-year and 24-year planning horizons having five types of candidate units is considered. Two different constraint-handling methods are incorporated and impact of each method has been compared. In addition, comparison and validation has also made with dynamic programming method.Keywords

Power System planning starts with Electric load (demand) forecasting. Accurate electricity load forecasting is one of the most important challenges in managing supply and demand of the electricity, since the electricity demand is volatile in nature; it cannot be stored and has to be consumed instantly. The aim of this study deals with electricity consumption in India, to forecast future projection of demand for a period of 19 years from 2012 to 2030. The eleven input variables used are Amount of CO2 emission, Population, Per capita GDP, Per capita gross national income, Gross Domestic savings, Industry, Consumer price index, Wholesale price index, Imports, Exports and Per capita power consumption. A new methodology based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) using principal components is also used. Data of 29 years used for training and data of 10 years used for testing the ANNs. Comparison made with multiple linear regression (based on original data and the principal components) and ANNs with original data as input variables. The results show that the use of ANNs with principal components (PC) is more effective.Keywords

Passenger’s comfort in moving vehicles depends on the quality of the ride. The major cause of discomfort is the vibration transmitted to passengers due to the road irregularities. For a comfortable ride on a vehicle, vibration must stay within prescribed standards. In the present work, an attempt was made to show that, the vibrations can be limited with the use of Magneto-rheological (MR) dampers for varying road profiles than the passive damping methods. MR dampers are semi-active control devices that use MR fluids to produce controllable damping force as they are known to exhibit nonlinear behaviour. Multi body dynamic studies were done to study the response of the system using a quarter car model. In this paper, passive damping (viscous damping) was considered at natural frequency of 1.012Hz, the response of damping was observed after 10s and the acceleration was found to be 6m/s2. When MR damper is employed as the magnetic force increases, the response of the damping was better than the passive damping, at 1.2A it comes down to 0.55m/s2, and the vibration gets dampened after 1.75s. Hence, from this study it is concluded that the MR damper can be employed in automobile for better ride comfort.Keywords

Consistent quality of weld joint can be achieved when welding arc is properly directed at the j o int. It is difficult to achieve accurate fit-up and straightness of any weld joint in heavy structural fabrication. Further, heat of the welding arc causes distortion of the joint. Hence, mechanised welding processes would still require constant monitoring by the operator. To derive the maximum benefits of welding mechanisation, manual intervention should be kept to a minimum. This is achieved by the use of Seam Trackers.
Weaving of the welding arc reduces the number of passes required to weld a groove joint. Weaving also helps in avoiding lack of side wall fusion in narrow groove joints. Narrow groove joint reduces weld metal requirement. Hence, arc oscillation can improve productivity and quality. Weld arc oscillation (weaving) can be achieved by the use of Magnetic Arc Oscillators.

Objectives: Ensemble classification with fuzzy partial mining is a novel approach. The random subspace ensemble classifier contains several classifiers working on original attribute space. The aim of this paper is to examine the appropriateness of the random subspace ensemble method for fuzzy partial mining classification and thereby develop an algorithm Ensemble Classification on Fuzzy Utility Mining (ECFUM) by using a skill utility measure in addition to Support and Confidence. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The algorithm show high accuracy with ensemble classifier than solitary classifiers. The classifier is trained on random subspace method which is suitable when there is more number of attributes for the classification, where in many of the fuzzy rule based classification systems suffer increase in dimensionality. Findings: The unique integration of ensemble classification with fuzzy partial weighted mining generates Fuzzy Association Rules and Class Association Rules. Fuzzy association rules have been generated which holds the attributes association. Class association rules have been generated which holds the target class for the attribute association. The resultant classifier produced, shows credible results with better accuracy. ECFUM generates more number of hidden interesting rules compared to traditional associative classifiers. These hidden rules play a major role in later prediction of the algorithm. Improvements: Future work concentrates on the role of infinite sampling on class association rule with higher order confidence precedence to standardize the predictive power of the algorithm ECFUM.Keywords

Automobile body is collective assembly of several assembly parts. Function of assemblies is related to one another assembly parts. Assemblies and its actions are derived from the basic mechanical chain mechanisms. These relative motions are most important term to achieve the required function. Precision and accuracy is the sound term of assembly parts for automobile body. Over all efficiency of automobile body function may contributed by even a small element of the assembly parts. Failure of small element in a part may affect function of the body system. Every part of the assembly should meet the basic requirement like strength. There should not be any failure of the product during its entire life time, what reliability engineering talks about. Consideration must be tune to the over all life time function not only at the period of launching. Achieving those strategies can be possible in many ways. Factors to be consider for choosing the right way to meet the requirement which may balance functional constrain and operational conditions. Optimization is term which establishing the balancing of functional constrain and operational condition. This paper deals about the optimization of automobile body part which fails during its function. The 'part mismatch problem' is one of the general quality, problems in automobile assembly production line. Part mismatch affects the production by quality rejection, rework, down time etc. Most of the time part mismatches leads to major functional problem at the assembly section. Kaizen is a method which can control and eliminate such part mismatch problems in automobile assembly production. In this paper, the applicability of kaizen for quality improvement in the production of automobile assemblies with a case study is illustrated. By using kaizen, automobile assembly production line quality problem is solved. Case study about the bracket mismatch leads to brake hose mounting nut offset. This was the major problem of the under body assembly. Step by step kaizen procedure followed to solve the problem by data collection, ischolar_main cause analysis, selection of best solution method, corrective action, documentation and continuing improvement. Kaizen implementation for solving the problem also reflects in the improvement of quality, cost reduction, delivery to customer, morale of the employees and safety. Kaizen was found to be an effective process for improving the quality and productivity. Practical implications of Kaizen can improve the productivity by downtime reduction and quality improvement.- Enrichment of Ensemble Learning using K-Modes Random Sampling

Ensemble of classifiers combines the more than one prediction models of classifiers into single model for classifying the new instances. Unbiased samples could help the ensemble classifiers to build the efficient prediction model. Existing sampling techniques fails to give the unbiased samples. To overcome this problem, the paper introduces a k-modes random sample technique which combines the k-modes cluster algorithm and simple random sampling technique to take the sample from the dataset. In this paper, the impact of random sampling technique in the Ensemble learning algorithm is shown. Random selection was done properly by using k-modes random sampling technique. Hence, sample will reflect the characteristics of entire dataset.Keywords

First year students are not only developing academically and intellectually, they are also establishing and maintaining good relationship around them, developing an identity, deciding about career and life style and developing integrated philosophy of life.Due to the gap in their school and engineering curriculum, learning the programming subject in their first semester become more conspicuous. In this paper, an attempt has been made to study and investigate various available opportunities and challenges faced by both fresh and experienced faculty to teach the "Computer programming in c language". A study has been conducted which comprises of a set of questions for which a collective response from the end users have been obtained. The results of this study enlighten various key areas to face the challenges and best ways to work with opportunities.Keywords

Recently the millennial learners occupy the classrooms. These learners are filled with their needs and characteristics. They need collaborative learning experiences, quick feedback and have low tolerance for boredom. The main challenge for the faculty is to keep the learners in the classroom fully engaged, challenged and focused. This paper discusses about the characteristics of millennial learners and the way of using technologies to reach the millennial learners in the classroom. The responsibility of the faculty is to create self-learners and life-long learners.

The usefulness of most high technology devices such as cell phones, computers, and sensors is limited by the storage capacity of batteries. .In the future, these limitations will become more pronounced as the demand for wireless power outpaces battery development which is already nearly optimized. We need to develop electricity generating techniques with the help of wasted human energy which is in the form of mechanical pressure and vibration for our better future .Thus, new power generation techniques are required for the next generation of wearable computers, wireless sensors, and autonomous systems to be feasible. Nano generators are excellent power generation devices because of their ability to couple mechanical and electrical properties. For example, when an electric field is applied to Nano sheets a strain is generated and the material is deformed. Consequently, when a Nano sheets is strained it produces an electric field; therefore, Nano generators can convert ambient vibration into electrical power. Piezoelectric materials have long been used as sensors and actuators; however their use as electrical generators is less established. A piezoelectric power generator has great potential for some remote applications such as in vivo sensors, embedded MEMS devices, and distributed networking. Developing piezoelectric Nano generators is challenging. Piezoelectric properties are controlled/tuned by externally applied force/pressure, such as diode, strain sensor and strain-gated logic unites, which are a new field called piezotronics. Our paper presents a practical analysis to increase the power generation using Nano generators.

Chemistry is omnipresent in nuclear energy programmes all over the world. From the isolation and fabrication of fuel to the development of non-fuel materials and important nuclear processes, chemistry has played a crucial role. This article outlines the remarkable contribution that chemistry has made to the development of India’s nuclear science programme. After a general introduction that deals with the inception and diversification of chemistry in the Department of Atomic Energy and some initial milestone achievements, a few notable contributions at BARC and IGCAR have been discussed in detail. These include the contribution of chemistry towards the front-end and back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear safety, radiation chemistry and chemical innovations catering to the needs of society. Each sub-section also includes possible future developments in the fields necessary for a sustainable nuclear energy programme.Full Text
